We are a student-run non-profit organization that is dedicated to the promotion of second-language learning and multiculturalism in schools.

“To have a second language is to possess a second soul.”

– Charlemagne

Our History

The World Languages Week is an annual event that has promoted the diversity of cultures and languages at Upper Canada College (UCC) for nearly 10 years. Every year, we organize activities such as the Chinese lion dance, the Spanish karaoke and the indigenous languages lecture series to help raise awareness of the different languages and cultures present in our community. We believe that the World Languages Week is a fantastic opportunity and needs to be shared with other schools to further promote multiculturalism.

Upper Canada College has kindly sponsored this website to allow us to spread our love for diversity and help other schools to establish a World Languages Week or language and culture clubs.

“The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people.”

– Unknown

“Diversity is not about how we differ. Diversity is about embracing one another’s uniqueness.”

– Ola Joseph

About a fifth of Canadians, or nearly 6.8 million people, have a mother tongue other than English or French.

In Canada, about 17.5% or 5.8 million people speak at least two languages at home.

More than 200 languages are reported as home languages or mother tongues in Canada.

“Diversity is about all of us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.”

– Jacqueline Woodson
